Lisa Mateo can be seen flying high in Air 11 Monday-Friday from 5 to 9 am, as part of the CW11 Morning News' Commutercast traffic team with Jill Nicolini. From Air 11, Lisa has covered everything from traffic accidents to breaking news, including the 10-alarm warehouse fire in the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn.
Prior to her promotion to a full-time traffic reporter in 2006, Lisa had served as the fill-in traffic reporter for the CW11 Morning News since 2004. That same year Lisa began serving double duty as the Entertainment Producer as well, writing packages, attending movie junkets and producing in studio live guests.
Lisa got her start in television when she was selected in January 2000 as one of ten Tri-State area students to participate in a weekly "Broadcasting Seminar," a course which covered various aspects of the industry. She was then hired as a production assistant for the CW11 Morning News when it launched as WB11 Morning News in June 2000, and quickly became the Entertainment Producer just five months later. Lisa has also worked as an on-air correspondent for the WPIX special series, "Viva!," which focused on Hispanic Americans making it big America.
Born to Puerto Rican parents in Brooklyn, New York, Lisa is the oldest of four daughters. During her middle school years her parents decided to move to New Jersey, and Lisa has been a "Jersey girl" ever since.
A graduate of Rutgers College with a double major in Journalism and Communications and a minor in Spanish, Lisa began her career in print news as a staff writer for the Suburban Trends newspaper in New Jersey, where she worked feature stories, local news and breaking news.
When she's not reporting breaking news for Air 11, Lisa enjoys running and playing all types of sports, listening to music, and spending time with her family.
She is a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.
